After using this jersey a few times, I realized that I had never owned a real winter long sleeve jersey before. It seems to have just the right amount of wind resistance to keep you warm, and also the right amount of breathability to let you cool off. There are several different types of material that have different wind resistance, the front has fair wind resistance (its double weight), the back is pretty breezy, like a light fleece. When I unzip, I can feel the air flow through and out the fleece in the back. Which brings me to the zipper, which works very well, nearly always with one hand, and smoothly. With the zipper tab down, it locks the zipper in place. Great pockets in back, good enough to hold a long sleeve base layer in case it gets colder, plus a lot of other stuff. I am older and tend to get cold easier; this jersey lets me ride with one less layer than I would have used in the past. I often think this jersey is about 1/2 way to being a jacket! When its warmer, you can wear just the jersey and it feels nice against the skin. I also have the poggio which is even warmer and still vents very well. Its sort of like this jersey on steroids. They were both excellent additions to my cycling wardrobe.

I have accumulated quite a few Castelli jerseys from STP, so I can give a direct comparison. The Premio is very similar to the Giro. The material of the Premio is slightly less brushed and fleecy on the inside, but it is a very subtle difference. Both have a nice smooth shiny exterior. The panel cut pattern is different, but they are both nearly identical in overall shape. Both are much less fleecy and warm than the GPM. I consider the GPM to be the most functional of the three, and the bargain of the century at STP's discount prices. The GPM is not quite as stylish and does not have the complex fabric patterns, but it does have great stretch to the fabric.
People say "size up" with Castelli, but that is only in comparison to typical American sizing. If you follow the castelli size charts they will be correct.
In terms of warmth, it would be GPM=>Giro=>Premio (warmest to lightest)
The GPM fits slightly snugger and can be used as a base layer due to its very fuzzy interior. The Premio and Giro are slightly roomier, allowing for a comfortable thin base layer if desired.
The Poggio is warmer than any of these jerseys, but it is marketed as a "jacket". Its is like halfway between a jersey and a jacket in weight, but its wind-blocking front and high collar give it a definite edge on warmth, particularly in wind.
The "Free" jacket is of course a full jacket and warmer than any of these.
