They live across the street from a redwood forest that is full of insects. I tried it and found it easy to use. I can't speak to battery life or software, but I can say the reviewer who said the battery compartment is not labeled is incorrect. There is a - and + on the cover, but they are hard to see. The symbols are near the hinge.
