Well made and comfortable.

These boots are comfortable, well made and good looking in a minimalist way. However, I have found them to be an odd combination of a sturdy ankle-supporting hiking boot leather upper, and the lightweight soft sole of a casual walking shoe. If you are looking for a good hiking boot, as I was, you may be disappointed. You can certainly feel a sharp rock through the soles and the lack of deep lugs makes traction on a slippery rocky trail questionable. Adding a stiff insert, like SuperFeet, would probably help, but not sure if that would compromise Chaco's negative heel design. These boots seem ideal as a day-hiking boot for groomed trails, a work boot or a sturdy walking shoe for someone needing good ankle support. I found the size to be true with good arch support and ample foot-bed room for my average width feet. Feel comfortably cool for a solid leather boot, yet could be warm in the winter wearing thick wool socks. Although not quite what I was looking for, its other attributes make them a keeper for me.
