The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

I am a woman in my mid-50s and found that the arch in the women's Chacos just hits me in the wrong place. Someone suggested I get the men's 2 sizes down from the woman's size and this did the trick. Also, the men's medium fits sort of like a woman's wide would fit so it fits better width-wise, too. I live in Maine and besides doing some backcountry kayaking, I am in a lot of rough terrain and I wanted a sandal that would be good in and out of the water, on the trail, and this seems to be a good choice. I also tried the Chaco Updraft model but the sole is much thinner and I feel the Unaweep will be a sturdier sandal than the Updraft, especially on uneven, rocky surfaces. The downside is that these sandals are very heavy, and I hope they won't make my poor old feet tired at the end of a full day due to their weight. My biggest disappointment is the color, Shoal. In the photo it appears to be green and grey, but in reality it is green and black and has a completely different look. I would have exchanged the color but they didn't have my size so I guess I'll just have to get used to it. The irony is that I got these in January. My UPS man deilvered them by walking up our driveway during a raging snowstorm, since the driveway hadn't been plowed yet. Expected temperatues tonight are -35F with windchill. I guess it will be a few months before I can wear these outside! lol
