What happened to the straps?

Let me preface this by saying that I LOVE Chacos. I live in Chacos, literally. Living in the PNW allows me to do this, most of the year. I do have skinny feet, but the straps in the new Z/2 Unaweep are much too long. This has always been a bit of a problem, but is suddenly more pronounced with my newest pair (this is number 3 in 10 years). I tighten them to my preferred state, then am unable to draw them through the buckle enough to actually fit my feet... I run into the end of the strap, as far as it is physically able to go, and it's still too loose. Then the end of the strap (past the buckle) drags on the ground and I nearly trip myself. Had to have a friend cut them with a hot knife and resew them with a heavy duty machine to alleviate the problem. The ZX/2 (double strap) Unaweep is even worse! I ordered a pair online which I must sell because they won't even stay on my feet. I will say that the Z/2 Yampa does not have the same problem, I can get those adjusted without all of the above issues (tried some on in an REI recently). But I don't want the Yampa, I want the heavy duty Unaweep. Seems to me that Chaco needs to make a narrow foot version of the Unaweep with slightly shorter straps. Just want anyone else with skinny feet to know that this may not be the Chaco for you.
