I wear this jacket on cold, snowy days on the slopes. Riding up the lifts in the face of freezing snow flurries I am protected and warm with this rugged jacket. The slight insulation makes it a bit bulky and not as practical for back country layering, and the attached hood adds to its overall heft. I am 6ft tall, 185lbs and the medium is perfect for layering one or two pieces under. The slight stretch in the material is a welcome plus. Over all, a quality piece of gear I anticipate to wear for several seasons on the slopes.

Unfortunately I returned the jacket since the blue color displayed on the website does not match the real thing at all. The real color comes on dull side and also the fitting feels weird where chest and overall length feels good but sleeves run too long. Overall a good jacket if you are ok with a different color than you see on the display and the fit is ok on you.

I had to send this one back unfortunately. It looked like good build quality and felt good, but the fit was really weird. I am 6'-3", 200. The chest seemed to be about 4 inches bigger than I am used to, while the sleeves were the correct length. The neck was also very long and high, and wasn't comfortable. i liked the color, and everything else seemed fine, but it didn't take me long to realize this wasn't the jacket for me.

My son picked this out because of the bright orange color (his favorite). It fits a bit on the large side, but he's so happy he doesn't care. He's wearing it to school.

  • “What are the lengths of the sleeves of the S vs the M. Also is the jacket overall length different as well between the S and the M.||Thanks”
Asked by Itch from Boston, MA on 11/5/2010 12:00:00 AM
    • Sleeve length on a size small is 36" and the length is 29". For the size medium the sleeve is 37" and the length is 30".
Answered on 11/17/2010 12:00:00 AM by Customer Care 1 from Sierra Trading Post
    • FWIW, when I compared a medium with a large there was almost an inch difference in the sleeve length, and just over an inch in the overall length.

  • “Is there pit zips on this jacket?”
Asked by Anonymous from Unknown on 2/28/2010 12:00:00 AM
    • The Columbia Sportswear Black Ice jacket does not have pit zips.

  • “Is this jacket similar in fit to the Columbia Blade Run jacket(slightly trimmer) but is insulated rather than with a zip in fleece liner?”
Asked by Jim from Malta, NY on 1/29/2010 12:00:00 AM
    • It will be close to the same fit. The liner in the Black Ice jacket does not come out as the Blade Run jacket, but they are about the same regarding warmth. I hope this helps.

  • “Does the jacket included a second zipper to allow for a zip-in fleece underlayer?”
Asked by Anonymous from Unknown on 12/21/2009 12:00:00 AM
    • The liner in the Black Ice jacket does not come out as this is not a zip in compatible jacket. You can layer with a separate fleece underneath but this is a shell.

  • “Would the size Small fit a slim build at 6'4" tall or would I be better off getting the Medium - this is for a Jacket 2137N|a Columbia Black Ice Jacket”

    • You did not mention what your chest measurement is. Follow the sizing range recommended on our website that is closest to your chest size.
