I'm always worried about hats, will it fit, does it look okay. I'm very happy with the hat. Seems of good quality. Fits my big head fine. Look forward to see if the 'bug me not' works, but I'll have to wait til I get to the cottage. But happy with the purchase.

But if you want to use it for hiking and things like that, the brim might prove too wide. It's so wide/bog, that it curls around your head, looking like the kind of hat my grandma would wear to church Easter Sunday :)

The hat will fit sizes up to 7-3/4 which is the smallest size in the XXL range. It would fit if his head is 24-1/4 inches or smaller.

Columbia does not exactly say what it is. This what they have posted on their web site about Insect Blocker. "Effective and EPA Registered
Insect Blocker is so tightly bonded to fabric fibers that it retains its effectiveness through 70 washings. It's EPA registered without restriction, offering protection for the entire family."

After checking the care tags the active ingredient is Permethin 0.052.

The hat would fit head sizes up to 7-3/4 it would be a snug fit though. It has a draw string in the head band.
