This is the best jacket ever made for summer camping with mosquitos. It is made from mesh and not hot at all, but still completely protective. The hood is large enough to cover a hat and protects the nape and sides of the neck perfectly. I have used it for three straight summers and it has held u... Read More

Use daily while gardening and no bug bites. Harvesting blueberries and raspberries are bug havens and the jacket keeps them away.

We got two of these for a boat camping trip. The mosquitoes weren't horrible at the marina, but we were still getting bit at night because it got hot and we had to sleep with all the hatches and cabin doors open. After deciding to try sleeping in these mesh jackets, with just a blanket over our legs, there were no more bites. I wanted to order a couple more in other sizes (they run true to size), but they were sold out!

I purchased two jackets - for myself and the other for a friend. We use both Active and Pro Gore-Tex clothing and deet can affect those materials if the oil from your skin gets into the Gore-Tex This jacket is made with permethrin and works like any other clothing you might spray with it. However, the jacket does breath quite a bit. We use these on the Appalachian Trail and around home while mowing our lawns and other activities. When bugs are really bad, we also use a bug head net. With the discounted price, this jacket is well worth it.

This has made my life so much better - I wear it in the mornings at dawn and evenings at dusk when I am doing chicken chores, or gardening - very effective with the mosquitoes. Now I want pants!

So far it hasn't snagged, but I imagine that is just a matter of time. seems well made, even though I am normally not a fan of columbia sportwear products. It does add warmth, unfortunately, but given the choice between flies and mosquitoes or a little more sweat...I'll wear the jacket!

  • “What is the sleeve length (from shoulder seam to cuff) in sizes L and XL? I have 42-43 chest, but very long arms (35-36 in dress shirts).”
Asked by Crowley from PA on 9/18/2014 12:22:46 PM
    • I have a Medium the is generously cut for my 40" Chest and the sleeve is 3" in excise of my need. However with an elastic cuff, it is irrelevant to the fit. This is truly cut to be an overgarment. The insect blocker works well especially agains gnats & mosquitos. I wear it on the water and in the woods. I wish they had this when I lived in Alaska. Not for brush and briar!

  • “While this is a mesh jacket with insect-repellant chemicals infused, my question relies on the 'size of the mesh' itself because insects that are heck-bent on attacking their food sources in the wild will successfully get past any opening including large-hole mesh to get their just rewards. Especially very small and vicious biting flies such as we have, among others here, that can get through most bug screens or find a layer to crawl beneath to further their blood lust to satisfaction. So many of these kinds of things can stop a large insect-craft from landing to do their dirty work, but most of the problems in AK backcountry or some of our wilderness/yards not clearcut, bulldozed, or paved over come from successful 'smaller than mosquito-sized' attack.... {So, the question of the opening size in this mesh jacket is way up front. Also, most people probably could just get the permethian spray to treat almost any suitable item, but these tiny "no-see'ms" are almost invisible unless you happen into a cloud of them...} If someone gets re-treatment spray, be wary of the chemicals & heed the warning. Take care in handling treated items, even those from the factory... A better design without chemical repellent would be ideal, though. I bought spray but have never used it, after reading a MSDS. A physical barrier to stop all the other kinds of biting small bugs is required, as few of the biting bugs really are mosquitos in the long run, here...”

  • “Is it a rain Jacket?”
Asked by jpvilla5454 from South Carolina on 8/10/2013 6:11:35 PM
    • It is not a rain jacket, it is a mesh jacket to protect you from biting insects.
