Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Reviewed by Mike's World of Snow from Flagstaff. AZ on Monday, January 19, 2015This plain looking cap is waterproof, lined like a space shuttle, soft, comfortable, gas an adjustable chin strap and flip down brim. Its a classic style, well made and easy to wash, and it will not blow off your head. Kept my ears toasty in a 10 degree blizzard. I have a friend who loves this cap so much I am getting him one today too. There is nothing at all I would change on this design.
Reviewed by G from California on Saturday, December 13, 2014First the good:
The hat is lightweight and warm. I really dig the radiant heat feature. The fleecy flaps come down the sides of my face and cover my ears, keeping them warm. The strap keeps the hat in place if it is windy.
When I tighten the strap to a functional degree, half the strap is covered in that nice fluffy bit and keeps skin in presses against warm. Unfortunately the other half is just cold plastic pressing against my skin. Probably no good fix for this. I wish there was a fabric sleeve or something that could be rolled up over the clasp. This hat would also benefit from a back flap, as another reviewer mentioned.
There are "button" holes on the side flaps, but no corresponding buttons on the hat. Why bother with the button-holes? The strap holds the flaps up!
Warm hat is pretty functional, but small tweaks could really make it awesome.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by MidMom from California on Wednesday, November 19, 2014It is a little short in the back, not like some of the plaid style retro hunter flap hats and not as long in the ear flaps. So it is a similar, but different fitting hat than the 40's retro kind. Warm enough if back of neck blocked by a hooded jacket with the hood down or a scarf. Strap just sort of weirdly useless for general wear. Fits a smaller head well.
Reviewed by Andy from Pennsylvania on Thursday, February 6, 2014This should really be a four and one half rating, because of the one minor design flaw. But first, the positive ratings.
This is a very lightweight but warm hat. Because of the helmet design it doesn't feel tight on the head the way that a knit cap would over a period of time. The fleece lining is soft and kept my ears warm over an hour and half while I removed eight inches of snow from my very long driveway, and I think it would have kept me warm for a lot longer.
The insulation works very well to keep me warm without any feeling of overheating or getting sweaty.
It's purely functional for me, so I wouldn't wear it going out somewhere.
The one flaw is the chin strap pad which, while it is warm and comfortable once it's in place, twists and bunches up while I was putting the hat on. I had to look in a mirror to see what was wrong and to manipulate it into place, a minor inconvenience that could have been prevented by fixing the pad onto the chin strap.
Reviewed by Mrs. Lib. from New England on Saturday, January 25, 2014when the flaps are not down, this sits up on the head way to high. also the chin guard padding sticks up at an unattractive angle regardless of where you slide it.
it is very warm when brim and flaps are down.
