Comfortable, stylish and durable

I've owned an earlier version of these Columbia 'Slate' slides for years and use them so much they have finally worn out. They were so comfortable and durable that I just bought this slightly different design Slate III version to replace them. I'm a bit surprised to see that they are close-outs, since the Slate model has been in the Columbia lineup for a long time. These leather slides look classy and fit true to size, but they do not adjust for a very wide foot. They are slightly heavier than comparable slides or flip-flops made mostly of synthetic materials. An elastic velcro strap over the top arch ensures a snug but comfortable fit but not a lot of leeway for adjustment. The footbed is well-cushioned, with good arch support and a slight ridge under the toes to help with grip when walking. Very easy to slip on and off without bending over. Can serve double duty as household slippers and outdoor walkers. My new ones are not fully broken in, but I am fairly confident that they will hold up equally well for daily use and long walks. Judging from experience with my old Slates, the cushioned leather over time will conform to the foot better than a fully synthetic slide. Also, these Slate III's are too new to judge whether Columbia's claim that the footbed is "anti-odor" holds true. All in all, a well-made, good looking and comfortable slide that I can recommend.
