The LMD #5 and #6 by CRKT look a bit large and bulky in the pictures. They do have some width to them, but still fit well clipped to the top of the pocket without being obnoxious.
These knives do have a stout blade, thick and very work capable. The blade shape is great for outdoor use also. It has enough belly in it for skinning chores and is thick enough for camp duty as well. It comes out of the box razor sharp and ready for duty. It has a nicely hollow ground blade that should be a pleasure to sharpen.
The handle looks blocky, but sits nicely in the hand and has a good balance. The G10 scales are thin and smooth and offer just enough texture to hold in the hand easily without so much texture that it rips your pocket to shreds.
The main reason for the 4 stars is that there is no mechanical blade lock. Neither a spring or liner lock are featured on this knife. It does feature what feels to be a ball detent type of hold open system. At 90° the blade has a detent and again when its fully open.
I'm guessing that the groove in the blade was put there for one handed opening. It works OK except that the previously mentioned detent stop at 90° stops you in your tracks and keeps the opening process from being a smooth task.
Overall fit and finish are nice. There are no rough edges or gaps in the handle or uneven finish in the steel.
I would recommend this knife to someone who needs a sturdy knife that sits good in the hand.
Overall a typical CRKT knife, great quality and finish at a really good Sierra Trading Post price!!
