Dale of Norway Gautefall Knitshell Jacket - Windstopper®, Wool (For Women)
Closeouts. Dale of Norway's Gautefall jacket is designed for powerful performance in nature's worst weather. Three-layer Knitshell is a combination of Dale of Norway's proprietary water-resistant yarn and a new technology that allows the traditional Gore Windstopper® membrane to be adapted to wool.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Joe with feet from California on Thursday, July 23, 2015I tried one of these on a few years ago and loved it but these jackets have always been out of my price range. Not anymore. The jacket seems really well made and warm. The pictures don't really do it justice because the texture of the wool really makes the jacket stand out. If it's still available for a good price you have to buy one (or two).
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Scarletkat from Momence, IL on Thursday, January 31, 2013I love this coat but you will need to add a layer underneath for it to be a true windstopper. When you get where your going you will be taking it off...it is that warm.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Suzie from Watertown, NY on Wednesday, January 23, 2013I bought this jacket to wear on Ottawa and for cold North Country (upstate NY) winters. It is the perfect outer layer. I typically wear it over wool sweaters and it does a great job of keeping me warm and dry. I had to buy a size up in order to have room for sweaters with any bulk. Otherwise the medium would have been perfect. I love all the detail this jacket has. And I love it's unique look. Definitely a must buy for me!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Lucky from St. Paul, MN on Wednesday, December 19, 2012Had to return because of fit. Also, color selection limited. No color combo I loved among the 3 offered and sizes very limited within those options. Can't offer specifics on function since I returned before using.

Verified Buyer Reviewed by WarmthSeeker from Rochester, NY on Sunday, December 16, 2012I bought this jacket for cold upstate NY winters. I am finding the jacket to be very warm and I love all the features on the jacket. Materials are all of high quality. People said it ran a little small, but I find it about right, in fact my large is a little bulky around the waist, not the most form flattering jacket I've had. My biggest complaint is that the storm flap over the zipper top is not well designed and pokes at the face. Plus I wish there were storm flaps on both sides of the zipper. Otherwise I'd highly recommend it for warmth for an everyday and/or sports jacket.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Triehaus Girl from Colorado Springs, CO on Thursday, October 11, 2012I'm very happy with this. There are some nice features I didn't realize I was getting (zipper pits, zipper pockets INSIDE other pockets), which really impressed my gear snob husband, especially since I picked this without his input. (Can't a girl get a cool looking jacket without always being concerned about the perils of some sub-zero disaster scenario?) Having said that, the gear snob was impressed; this is a great coat! Sub-zero disaster scenario worthy. The hood zips off, too. I love options!

Verified Buyer Reviewed by gr8lady from Kamchatka, Russia on Thursday, February 16, 2012Overall it's a great jacket. Though it could be a bit longer to cover the bottom part. Usually I wear size S and this jacket in size S is OK. So it's true to size. Very warm winter clothing, not lightweight but really water and windproof.
- Best Uses: Outdoor, Skiing
Reviewed by WinterCyclist from Boston on Wednesday, February 15, 2012Fit runs a bit small but is nicely shaped; I love the pit zips for temp adjustment, nice colors, good hood. This jacket is not super warm by itself, but works very well layered over long underwear and a light sweater. It is windproof and very water repellent (not waterproof, but it is not rain gear after all!) Fleece lining is very comfortable against the skin, and the wool layer does work in a wide range of temps. It is too heavy for backpacking trips, but for day trips and everyday use it is great!
- Best Uses: Casual, Dayhikes, Skiing, Snowshoeing
- Cons: a bit heavy, Fabric a little stiff
- Pros: Lots of nice features, Nice looking, Not itchy, Pit zips, Windproof

Verified Buyer Reviewed by Upnorthlady from Grand Marais, Minnesota on Tuesday, January 10, 2012I love this jacket. I wear mine with jean/cords and like the look and feel. The jacket is warmer than I expected and keeps the wind from chilling me. I did order a large since Dale of Norway products run smaller than some other brand. The coat fits great.
- Best Uses: CASUAL WEAR
- Cons: Runs Small
- Pros: Beautiful Construction, Vibrant colors, Warm and stylish
Reviewed by Angie from North Carolina on Saturday, January 7, 2012Exceptional coat ... love everything about it .... runs a little small (normally I wear a size L) so I am glad I ordered an XL - fits perfectly...... love the raspberry/green color .... beautiful....... definitely a keeper.
- Pros: Very well made
Reviewed by Dandy like a Dandelion from New York on Tuesday, December 27, 2011Technically, it is a great jacket and no detail was overlooked. The proprietary to DofN fabric (a little heavier, it's 82% wool) isolates from wind very well. The hood offers adjustments making it very comfortable to wear. The armpit vents with a mesh underneath, which is great, offer great regulation of temperature. Wrist cuffs are very comfortable. The two front pockets have (1) inside zip pockets making sure that the valuables won't get lost and (2) have magnets – new to me – to assure that they stay together. I wore this jacket in really windy conditions with temperatures in lower 30s without wind-chill factor and it protected me very well. I don't know yet how it handles snowy-rainy conditions. As for size, it is true to European sizing. I got it in S and I'm 34"-25"-37" in chest-waist-hips respectively. I have plenty of room to layer underneath. My concern was the combination of colours this jacket is offered in. I like orange and I like cream so I ordered it in orange/off white; it looked like an "elements" jacket, one orange piece here and another cream there. I sent it back. I reordered it in raspberry/forest green and what a difference! Both colours are darker making it a less chunky in appearance and, since my cold-weather pants tend to be in darker colours, I have no problem coordinating this jacket with my clothes. I'm happy with this jacket; it's another great purchase from Sierra.

Reviewed by LB from MN on Monday, December 5, 2011This jacket is really beautiful and I simply love it. That said, like a lot of Dale of Norway items it does run a bit small. I am really glad for the extra layer in the sleeves so my wrists aren't exposed.

- Cons: Runs a bit small
- Pros: BEAUTIFUL, Excellent quality, Great materials, Well Made
Verified Buyer Reviewed by proud owner from MA on Saturday, December 3, 2011This is an awesome jacket. Runs true to size; roomy enough for layering. A bit bulky for a shell, but with insulation equivalent to a fleece. Perfect for skiing (backcountry) and winter hiking. And it looks pretty sweet, too.
