    • Not at all

    • To be honest, I've only used these as nippers. I'm new to fly fishing and am not sure how to use the "knot tyer" part of this device. The pin is, of course, a good thing to have to clear stray glue out of eyelets. One thing I use to help hold small flies while I tie them on is a Ty-rite. It looks like a mechanical pen but it's got a hook that wraps around the hook in its curve so you can hold it steadily.

In my experience, the only thing that helps me tie better knots is practice. I use scraps of old fly line (two colors, two sizes) and practice, practice, practice. It's different when you go to use mono but at least most of the muscle memory is there. Good luck!!

    • I haven't tried tying leaders to braided line. But it definitely helps tying better knots.

About Dr. Slick Co.

Mix one part surgeon with one part fly fisherman. Add some high quality stainless steel and a little ingenuity, and you have fishing instruments from Dr. Slick Co. Unimpressed with the quality and performance of available fishing tools, the good doctor did what any enterprising fisherman would do – he created his own. As a surgeon he was used to working with top-quality tools and saw no reason why fisherman shouldn't enjoy the same precision and quality. Dr. Slick nippers, scissors and other tools are all made from fine stainless steel and built to last. Trade your fishing tools for precision instruments and enjoy the performance that can only be found from Dr. Slick Co.
