Not as big as expectedVerified Buyer Reviewed by JC the Explorer from JC the Explorer on Wednesday, March 21, 2018I have had the bag and used it on 2 weekend trip. I purchased the bag intending to use it for a 19 day trip to Thailand, but the bag isn't as big as I anticipated. The main bag is do-able if you are a minimalist packer, but wouldn't work for the everyday over-packer (like myself). And it is a bit heavy when you fill the bag because of the handle frame and wheels. It would be a good bag for small amounts of travel but wouldn't be suitable as a backpackers backpack. You wouldn't want to wear it for more than an hour or so. I really like the smaller day bag though, it is the perfect size for day trips. The main bag has removable backpack straps that can hook both on the main pack and the Day pack. But unless you ordered another set of the back pack straps separately, you wouldn't be able to wear both the main back and the day pack as separate packs, but you can still clip the day pack to the main bag.
-Both bags have TSA lockable zippers.
-Removable Day Packs
-Padding on back of main bag
-Heavy Duty Wheels on main bag
-Bag Material is really durable, well made
-The Top/Side Handles are heavy duty, made to endure
-Day pack has mesh side inserts for water bottles
-Day pack has ability to be used as a hydration pack
-Rubber coating on wheels - quiet rolling
-Small main bag
-No hip straps
-2 wheels on main bag, not 4
-Fixed wheels, not spinner wheels
-a bit heavy for a backpack
-Unsure about durability of backpack strap clips at the bottom, made of plastic and are clip in
i really wanted to love thisReviewed by zensm from MA on Wednesday, January 24, 2018I really wanted to love this, not just for the price but because of all the versatility. In the end though, everything was just a skosh too small. UGH. I researched many bags but apparently not well enough and not thinking about how I pack. I am not a light packer. I need all the room I can get. The suitcase part of this bag is about 39L and that backpack is about 17L. Everything seemed mini! I ended up going with the Load Warrior which is 42L, has expansion (which would change the dimensions) and weighs almost 2lbs less! I figured I can use my 20L-22L backpack and just not have the ability to attach it to the suit case. Plus, I currently don't travel where I would need to put the whole thing on my back. It seemed well made and the looks of the case and day pack were spot on. I do recommend this bag for light packers and for people who may need to put the suitcase on their back.
Good Carry onVerified Buyer Reviewed by tanthemanmyers from Missouri on Saturday, December 30, 2017The only issue if you have to remove the out side pack to get to the main pack
Exceptional LuggageVerified Buyer Reviewed by Holly from Minnesota on Sunday, February 28, 2016I purchased this piece of luggage for a month-long trip to Scotland. I figured I needed one good-sized bag to hold all my clothes and one carry on with all my electronics, entertainment, change of clothes, jacket, and anything else I didn't want stolen out of my checked luggage. Then I could also use the backpack as a day pack for hiking excursions and overnight jaunts (like a side trip to the Isle of Skye). I debated heavily between many options, (the Switchback being a close second) and finally chose the 22" Doubleback for two very important reasons: it fit my body well and I got it in Cactus Green. Ok, I got it just because it came in green. If the Switchback came in any color other than black, I would have chosen that one because it was slightly larger inside the main bag, and the backpack had lots of pockets.
The 22" size I found packed just like the Pack-it card indicated. I was able to stuff into the main bag: 5 long sleeve t-shirts, three short sleeve t-shirts, 2 pair of pants and a button down shirt, all my unmentionables (7 of each -- I cheated on socks by stuffing a pair or two in each pair of shoes I packed), two pair of shoes, pajamas, and a handful of bits like a compass, and a plug-in adapter.
In the backpack I was able to pack one complete change of clothes, toiletries bag including the 311 bag, Kindle, cell phone, gps, cords for them all, water bottle, neck pillow, puzzle book, journal, pens, and travel documents. I was able to roll a fleece jacket and snap it in the pocket on the front.
I found that with both bags packed thus and hooked together, I was able to put the bag on my back and stand up and walk around (I am a 5'4" 130 lb woman). I don't think I could walk more than two blocks with it, but it was comfortable and secure. A jaunt up two flights of stairs would probably kill me, however. Thankfully, there are back-up rollers which work remarkably well, even up stairs. I also found the straps, snaps, and connectors easy to snap together and pull apart. No pinching, pain, or broken nails.
Overall, I love this bag! The Cactus Green is ridiculously easy to spot at the baggage check.

“Is the cubic inches calculated based on the main pack or the main pack plus The detachable backpack”
Main Bag 2410 cu in | 39.5 L , Modular Backpack 1100 cu in | 18 L
I'm not sure - however, taken right off the tag from the one I purchased from Sierra Trading Post (not the newest model) I can tell you that the main bag is 14x22x9 inches, 2375 cu inches (369L)
the backpack is 11x18.5x6, 1025 cu inches (17L)
6 lbs 4 oz for main bag and 1 lb 3 oz for the backpack.
I really liked the product, but in the end decided since I'm such a heavy packer the load warrior was the better suitcase for me, and I'll just use a backpack I already own. I believe the latest model is a skosh bigger for both the main bag and the BP but that also has changed the telescoping handle to a T grip which bothers some people.
