Most airlines allowable carry on dimensions are 22”x14”x9” for a total of 45” linear (all together) and weighs 40 lbs. However you may want to check with your air carrier since these may vary some from carrier to carrier. The dimensions for this is 30x14x11". It is likely not to be allowed.

“I have a son about to go into Boy Scouts, so I am looking at packs for both of us. When I was a scout over 25 years ago most of our packs were external frane and you usually strapped your tent to the top of the pack. The internal frame packs don't look to have room for this on top. Were do most pack their tents with this kind of pack? Do you pack them inside the pack?”
I usually pack my tent in the middle of my backpack and pack the rest of my gear around it. Or you could attach a tent to the bottom of this pack by using the two compression straps. If you have any other questions please let me know.
