5.0 out of 5 stars. Filson quality al over again!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Northeast on Saturday, February 10, 2018I have (1) black short lined tin cruiser, (1) tan regular tin cruiser, (1) burnt olive Down Parka, (1) green/black Limited Edition Jac-Shirt, (1) olive/black Plaid Mackinaw cruiser, (1) Red/cream/black ombre plaid Limited Edition Wool Packer & (1) navy blue Mackinaw Peacoat and my new navy blue Mackinaw Work Jacket makes for a total of (8) Filson jackets/coats. That said, I think I understand the product and can offer a fair review. I haven't paid retail for any of my Filson jackets/coats and bought each of them brand new with discounts ranging from 30-65% off. STP has this jacket's regular retail price listed as $395 but it is actually $425 everywhere else and being sold for $425 everywhere else. Filson.com and STP have offered the steepest discounts that I've found anywhere.
I've been looking to get a liner to wear under my Mackinaw cruiser that I use for work daily when it is cold out but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on the cost of a liner that IMO doesn't look good when worn by itself. My Mackinaw cruiser is what started me off as a loyal Filson fan. I do a pretty good job of putting it thru hell and back in my opinion and when I wear it with a hoodie and a fleece, I'm comfortable in temperatures down to -10 and a lot of times I'm standing in place without working up a sweat.
Now I wear a t-shirt, my Mackinaw work jacket with my single Mack over my work jacket and I was ridiculously comfortable with windchills around -20 or lower. I think that the value in this wool work jacket is a hell of a lot greater than a wool liner. It looks great when worn by itself and it breaths so well that I rarely take it off when indoors so long as it's unzipped. The action back on both sleeves is well executed and really gives me freedom of movement.
I've recently lost around 60 lbs in this past year so my single Mack is an extra large but this wool work jacket is a large and they work perfectly together. I'm 5' 10" was 260lbs and now I'm 200 with broad shoulders.
The jacket does have some flaws however they don't change my (5) star rating because for $149.99 vs $425 regular retail and vs. $225 for a Filson wool liner, this is a great buy. The pockets could have been better placed, I would have preferred having (2) chest pockets instead of only (1). I would have preferred having a another interior pocket and lastly it would have been better without the liner but that is a double-edged sword.....and here is why.
If it didn't have a liner, It would breathe even better and if I sweat, it wouldn't be absorbed by the cotton body liner & polyester sleeve liner. Now, I'm not ever in survival scenarios so it isn't really a big factor for me where cotton can kill as opposed to wool that wicks sweat away and keeps you warm and dry.
Because it has a liner however, it is so nice to not have to wear a long sleeve shirt all the time because it can make me itchy. I think I have pretty tough skin (fiberglass insulation doesn't bother me like it does most people for reference) but I always have to wear long sleeves with single Mackinaw cruiser and if I purchased a Filson wool liner, I would also have to wear a long sleeve shirt so that it wouldn't make me itchy. So now I can have a light t-shirt on and throw on my Filson Mackinaw work jacket and I'm good to go without ever feeling itchy.
One more note to agree with a few others that have mentioned this, the jacket is a lot nicer in person. I won't go so far as to say that you can wear it out to dinner but as my new go to work jacket, I look much more professional than another contractor in a canvas duck jacket made in china that will look like its time to throw out come next winter for the about the same price @ $149.99.
FYI, my original single Mackinaw cruiser looks as good as the day I bought it which a regular canvas duck jacket could never do after about 6 washes and some way or another I end up ripping the polyester lining or have an issue with the zipper so it becomes a bed for my dog in my basement and garage. My Filsons will never become a bed for my dog and being that I'm no longer buying canvas duck jackets I might actually have to start buying my dog beds for the basement and garage. =)

3.0 out of 5 stars. mixed reviewVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Evanston on Sunday, February 4, 2018Sizing was fine and fabric, fit and feel were above average. Will return as pockets seem misplaced; too high to really put your hands in. If you walk around with your hands in your pockets, I would pass on this. If not, I would buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars. Quality jacket but has a few issuesReviewed by Wellydog from England on Saturday, January 20, 2018Top quality jacket as usual from Filson and at an excellent price from STP. Sizing is accurate, I'm 6', 190lbs, 40" waist and 44" chest. I have two of these jackets in size L and XL. I prefer the XL for a roomy fit, good freedom of movement and enough room at the neck to tuck your chin in and also enough length in the sleeves. The size L just feels slightly constricting for a work jacket. It's performance is good, it's warm down to well below freezing, and it's surprisingly good when it's cold and wet, you will stay warm and dry. I've worn it for several hours working in foul wet weather and it does wet out, but I've stayed bone dry so far. I think the jacket does shrink slightly after wetting out a few times.
The main down sides are: like other Filson jackets I've had, the fit around the neck with the zip done up is a bit tight
The zip is a nice double opening zipper but it can be difficult getting it to fit together at the bottom and do up - the action is poor compared to a Barbour zipper
Pockets are hopeless. The hand warmers would be better with zips. The pocket on the left breast is useless, too small for a large phone. The RH internal pocket is nice but it would be better with another one on the other side.
It needs practical fastenings on the cuffs to cinch around the wrists
The stand up collar works well keeping your neck warm but it needs a fastener or the zip to extend right to the top of the collar so that you can tuck you chin in
So all in all its a top quality jacket, beautifully made but if you are actually using it as a work coat some of the practical details could be better -
5.0 out of 5 stars. AmazingReviewed by ETC from Milwaukee on Friday, January 19, 2018Great jacket. It has substantial weight. Very high quality, like all Filson gear. I agree, it's too nice for a true work jacket. Would be plenty durable though. Fits true to size, but not fitted. I'm 6-1, 195 and the large is perfect, with a little room. Heavy duty zippers.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Wonderful jacketReviewed by PaulK from Pennsylvania on Friday, January 19, 2018Just got it. The picture doesn't do this jacket justice. Like most Filson products this jacket is high quality. Beautiful and rugged. It's too nice to use as a work jacket, so I'll be babying it for sometime. I would echo most of what the previous commenter had to say. I am 6' 200lbs, 36 waist, and the large, with a base layer and medium weight wool shirt underneath, fits as if it was custom made, neither too loose nor too tight. If you're considering it don't hesitate. It's not often that you can find a Filson mackinaw wool jacket at this kind of discount. I love it already. It looks and feels indestructible, will probably last a lifetime. Thanks stp for offering such as high quality jacket at such a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great JacketReviewed by Horace from Northeast on Saturday, December 2, 2017This jacket is nicer than it looks in the picture. It’s a high quality item that, like most Filson products, is really too good for its intended purpose. The Mackinaw wool is the best- good weight but not bulky, finely woven, smooth finish, soft. Details like the “action back,” pockets, linings, and heavy duty zippers are very well done. Yes, the hand pockets are high but therefore less likely to snag on stuff if you’re actually working. Filson takes the “work” aesthetic seriously. I’m 5’10”, 175, size 42, & the medium fits just right - sleeves in large would be too long for me. Fit is designed for active wear and a reasonably athletic build. It’s a warm, 3 season jacket, not a big heavy winter coat. USA made quality like this is not cheap but the STP price is a good value. Worth it and be prepared that if the fit is right, people are likely to notice how good it looks, whether you want that kind of attention or not.
