  • A "SERIOUS" WINTER COAT
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Captain Dave from Maine on Wednesday, January 3, 2018
I received my Fjallraven Polar Guide Parker when the temp was 5 degrees F here in Maine. I put it to use immediately. Prior to receiving this coat I had read many reviews and had followed one guy's suggestion that I should order one size down. That was wrong. I returned the medium and this time got the size large which fits great. I am 5'10" and 188 lbs with a 42 1/2 chest and I have longer than average arms There is room in the size large for a bulky sweater and that combination has kept me very warm at temperatures of -12 F with wind chill down in the minus twenties while standing around ice fishing. The sleeves are good and long which is a big plus for me.

The hood seems to work well in the wind. It is not one of those cheesy and drafty removable types with the gaps between snaps or buttons or the zippers that let the cold air leak through to your neck. The fake fur ruff on the hood is removable. I would prefer a bit more "fluff" to the fake fur, but that is small potatoes. Right now I am negotiating the purchase of a coyote pelt from a friend with which I will replace the fake stuff. I have never found a perfect hood and this one is no exception. It will take a bit of adjusting to get the proper "feel" if you know what I mean..

The coat is quite stylish according to my wife and daughter. I defer to them on such things. I do not work in the woods nor am I a sled dog musher, but I do spend a lot of time outdoors in the winter here in Maine. So far this coat is keeping me very toasty. The fabric seems very durable. In a min-blizzard the finish on the fabric shed the snow quite well. I have not tested it in mix rain and sleet.

I have been trying on the winter coats of a number of manufacturers for about a month and a half and feel as if I struck gold with this coat. The price made this purchased a no brainer. I got a very "serious" winter coat for a very reasonable price. The quality and attention to detail is very evident. This coat has been all that I had hoped for and more.

About Fjallraven

The Fjallraven story started more than 60 years ago when a 14-year old named Ake Nordin began trekking in the mountains of his native northern Sweden. Eventually, Ake started to notice the backpacks of the time didn't bear loads well, and decided to build his own. Within a decade, Ake was creating backpacks under the name Fjallraven, which translates to Arctic Fox in Swedish. Today, Fjallraven backpacks, jackets, fleece and outdoor apparel are helping people discover and enjoy the great outdoors all over the world. Choose Fjallraven packs and outdoor gear, and take your adventure to new heights.
