Super boot for those that may need a little extra ankle support

This is my 3rd pair of the Flame - they are just perfect. I happen to have ankles/feet that have been damaged over the years from sports, crashes and just adding years. These super supporting boots have a great heel cupping device that adds quite a bit if support. I just walked 500 miles across th... Read More

  • Excellent Boot
Verified Buyer Reviewed by All-weather Hiker from Portland, Oregon on Saturday, October 6, 2018
5 stars! Perfect fit and no break-in needed. Right out of the box, I went for a moderate 5 mile hike with no issues. I followed a week later with 4 mile hilly hike with no issues. However, on this second hike I replaced the original Asolo insole with my current Superfeet Insole, which made my fit just like my leather boot of 7 years. The Asolo replaces my leather boot because after pricing a costly replacement sole for my old boot, my wife convinced me to give the Asolo a try. She wears an Asolo, and her same experienced of no break-in and 2 years of hiking with no issues convinced me to order these boots. I'm glad I did.
  • Great mid weight boot

This is my 3rd pair of Asolos. I had the FSN 95, Fugitive, and now these. I think these are the most comfortable out of the bunch. While a little higher than the FSN’s, they fit my cankles comfortably and required virtually no break in. I literally wore these around town the day before hiking, then tackled an 8 mike hike with 3000 feet of gain and had no issues at all. I wanted a bit more flex in the sole than I was getting with the Fugitives and the Flames fit the bill. We’ll see how long the tread holds up, but for more grip and flex in the sole, I won’t expect these to last as long as the other more rigid soled pairs I’ve owned.

I've worn them 4 times on short hikes of 2.5 miles or less. Today's hike was 1.5 miles with a full pack of float tube, pump, fins, waders, and fishing gear. All hikes were on rocky, remote, poorly maintained trails. Boots have great ankle support for these rugged trails. Waterproofing worked well, until I waded in the lake. (Dried 'em out & were fine the next day.) They were sized correctly & comfortable out of the box. The sole is slippery on wet rocks, but otherwise good traction. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Had Asolo for many years and strayed away for some reason.(Garmont and Keen) Got these in wide and fit is just as I remember from a few years back. I used them for work hardscaping/pavers and landscaping great daily boot. All of my others were very waterproof, have not tested these but expect the same.

Asked by Jerr from Oregon on 4/26/2018 4:58:04 PM
    • If you're hiking and just stepping in an inch or two of water, they're very water proof. I wouldn't recommend standing in an inch or two of water for an extended amount of time.
