This are the best rendition of the old penny loafer that I have seen in a long time! I bought these in black - they are incredibly comfortable and have just the right amount of "geek" factor with a pair of black jeans. I love opening a box and seeing a really high-quality pair of shoes in it. These Frye penny loafers did not disappoint until I put them on. Darn it, they were too big in length. Sometimes I wear a 9.5, mostly a 10, but this Frye 10 was WAY too long and even a thick pair of socks wasn't going to fix it. Had to return them...no 9.5 available, just a 9.

Well made, to Frye's usual standards. I usually wear a 9 in Frye boots, and the 9 in this loafer works well with thin socks (though too tight with thick socks); if I were to order a 9.5, however, I think it would be much too loose in the heel. I ordered the brown color, which is really blah, and might have preferred them in the black. Nothing special, however, in terms of looks, but if you're looking for a plain, well-constructed loafer, this might fit the bill.

Only a minor problem, the "penny" component is not stitched down, so you can't really slip a penny into the pocket, but a minor detail and otherwise great! I usually wear a size 5-6, and Fryes always fit perfect for me in a size 5.5! Love!!

  • “how high is this heel???”

    • I wouldn't really call it a heel at all, just your typical loafer sole. Measured it is slightly less than an inch.
