First, I want to point out the positives. These boots are incredibly waterproof and water resistant. As long as you keep water, mud etc below the top of these your feet will be impervious. Pulling out of streambed they looked as if they had never been in the water! My feet were snug and dry. Excellent water repellency and protection. They held up equally well in crazy deep and clingy mud. The ankle support was very good as well. Overall the fit was quite comfortable with one critical exception. The toes. There is simply not enough room for your toes in this shoe. Pair that with absolutely no protection for your toes and you end up with a painful strike against what would otherwise be fantastic boots. After a moderately rigorous backpacking trip of 4 days in the woods I am likely to lose my big toenail on one foot with the other in quite a bit of residual pain. The first day out I had the misfortune of catching my foot on a jutting root and, due to a complete lack of any toe protection and a very tight space, experienced an acutely painful jam which ended up being exacerbated over the course of the next few days. Overall, these boots had a lot of potential, perhaps even a 5 star rating. Having to deal with what should have been a totally avoidable injury brings it down considerably.
