Great all around performance

I was looking for a reliable boot for day or multi- day hikes when I want to cover a lot of ground in rugged terrain, such as the Vermont Long Trail and the White Mountains of Maine and NH. I used these on a 17-18 mile day hike over the Carter-Moriah range in NH with less than 5 miles of break-in. Very comfortable. I had an issue with the top of the upper causing some pain on the side of my leg/upper ankle where the boot made contact. Can't say whether this was simply due to the short break-in period but the route was fairly rugged and had almost 7,000 feet of elevation gain. I have worn them often since then with no issues, but have not done any significant hikes. Have used them on short trail runs as well without issues. They provide a good balance of support, ankle protection, and light weight, which inspires confidence on a wide variety of terrain. These are sturdier than similar boots I've tried on such as the Merrell Moab. The Zeniths felt more durable for the types of trails I like while keeping weight down.

Boots seem to vent well when weather is warm. In temps below freezing, feet are cool as expected with the mesh covering a large part of the boot surface. Through stream crossings and mud my feet stayed dry. Grip also was good. As with any hiking shoe, you're always at risk on smooth, steep angle granite that is wet or coated with wet lichen or similar plant. I have fairly low volume feet and these boots fit best with mid- to mid-heavy wool blend socks. Have not tested them with pack loads above 25 pounds. I would reach for my heavier all leather boots when pack loads get into the 35 to 40 pound range and above. Very pleased and would buy these again. STP's sale price makes this boot an easy choice.
