Great socks for outdoor work in boots

Reviewed by Works Outdoors from Prescott, Arizona on Friday, July 6, 2012
I am working with the forest service to build trails and clean up litter this summer in Arizona. This involves a lot of hiking in addition to using tools and moving through a lot of brush. I needed thicker socks inside the boots I wear to work to last through a ten hour day.

My previous Goodhew socks were 'ski socks' and the tops came to midcalf where they were too tight. I've always rolled the top down to my ankle to allow circulation. These socks ride exactly at the top of my calf and as a result are not too tight, stay up all day, and I forget they are there. I wear a size 37 European, generally a 7 womens or a 5 mens, and I'm 5'3" tall. I believe I ordered the medium, and they fit nice (loosely) on my feet and snug (comfortably) on my legs.

Despite rotating three pairs of socks daily for over four weeks, they have maintained their loft and cushion. I cannot speak to their ability to maintain warmth in the winter, but they keep my feet dry and comfortable despite working in direct sunlight, 90+ degrees. I air dry the socks after a machine wash; I've had no problem with shrinkage.
