thinner, lighter, smaller

I just received 4 pairs of these to replace older ones that were beginning to wear. The new size m/l are much smaller and thinner than my older size m/l. The smaller size was very obvious when I opened the box. I checked the label to make sure that the size was correct. They are marked as m/l. Compared to a lightly used pair of the older model, the difference is striking. The older pair, worn maybe four times, measure 7.25 inches heel seam to toe tip. The new ones measure 5.5 inches. A single sock of the older version weighs 2.08 ounces. The new sock weighs 1.65 ounces. The overall length of the older sock measured 17 inches. The newer sock measures 14 inches. These are very, very different than the older model, so much so that it's a different product.

Trying on the new sock, the heel seam is at the front of my heel pad, and this is the m/l on a mens size 8 foot. Sizing on this newer version is very, very small. These might fit a mens size 6 foot, but the weight of the socks, the density of the wool, and therefore the warmth is very inferior to the previous version.

Look at the difference in the weight of the 2 models. This is not the product that received all those 4 and 5 star reviews. This is another sock entirely.
