More 'Smartwool' less 'Wigwam'

I bought these socks to compare to the Wigwam "Comfort Hiker" socks that I really like. I bought on the notion that the Goodhew brand was a direct comparison to Wigwam since they replaced them on the Sierra site.

I believe the casual wearer whom has never tried Wigwam Comfort Hiker socks would really like the Goodhew socks. They were indeed quite comfortable and kept my feet dry all day long at 80+ degrees working construction outdoors. They kept their fit, did not seem to flatten, fall down, or wriggle off in my boot. The interior loops are soft and plush.

However in direct comparison to the Wigwam Comfort Hiker socks (not comfort hiker lite socks), the Goodhews appear to be about half as dense inside; or to say, a little less comfortable. the Goodhew fit is a bit tighter in the toe, a bit looser in the calf, a little shorter on the leg, and also appears to have a wider weave overall. The label reads 68% merino wool, 30% nylon, and 2% spandex. In my experience with hiking socks, I would say these are very close to comparison with the fit and feel of Smartwool Hiking Med Crew socks than the Wigwam Comfort Hiker series.

I just looked up the Wigwam and Smartwool materials and they are given as follows:

Wigwam Comfort Hiker: 57% Merino Wool, 37% Stretch Nylon, 3% Dri-release@ (85% Polyester, 15% Cotton), 3% Rubber.

Smartwool Hiking Medium Crew: 71% Merino Wool, 28% Nylon, 1% Elastane

So Goodhew falls in the middle in terms of actual Merino Wool which surprised me.

One last little point of interest was the statement on the Goodhew label "CRAFTED IN THE USA" which I really like to see. Wigwam actively lobbies for USA manufacturing and of I assume practices what they preach and in searching I found that Smartwool also declares "Knit in USA" on their advertising. So all around good stuff.
