The material is heavy-duty waterproofed and somewhat stiff. Empty the bag weighs several pounds. No doubt it could carry heavy things and still hold up well. The main issue is the difficult access to the main zippered compartment; when the straps are in backpack mode (not extended as in the product photo), it is surprisingly hard to unzip the compartment and put things in there. Another reviewer mentioned this issue as well. It's hard to understand how poorly designed this system is until you see it in person. Maybe when the straps are extended into shoulder strap-duffel carry mode, this creates more headroom to actually open the compartment flap? Also, the straps are not stowable inside the bag, which could be a problem if one checks the bag on a flight. As I was looking for a lightweight backpack-duffel with normal access to the main compartment, this didn't suit my needs.

About Gregory

After designing his first backpack as a Boy Scout at the age of 14, Wayne Gregory dedicated his career to making outstanding gear, a mission that eventually led him to create Gregory Mountain Products in 1977. From the beginning, Gregory backpacks have been engineered using a combination of field research and customer feedback in order to enhance durability, fit and function. The brand has pioneered many industry firsts, such as multiple pack sizes with different frame, harness and waist belt dimensions. They also developed the first waist belt system that offered a variety of hip angles. Not surprisingly, Gregory backpacks have been praised in a wide range of publications, from Backpacker magazine to National Geographic Adventure.
