I loaded 52 pounds including three days of food, not packaged food. Plenty of exterior straps which I found handy. I stapled two tarps, folding backpacking chair and cooking grill on the exterior of the pack. It was well balanced and the pack didn’t shift after loading. This pack is probably best suited for three to four days depending on the amount of food, clothing and other essentials you might need

Great value on an awesome pack!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Off the Beaten Path from Arizona on Friday, June 1, 2018I picked up the Gregory Baltoro 70 (a bit larger, but otherwise identical to the Baltoro 65) a couple of years ago at an REI Garage sale. It was used, but still more expensive than the Baltoro 65 that is offered by Sierra Trading Post (I do not believe STP carried this pack when I bought mine). The pack was replacing an older pack that was beginning to wear on my shoulders and hips on longer and more arduous hikes. If you tend to pack heavy and hike in tough terrain, the Gregory Baltoro is worth every penny! It was the #1 rated pack a couple of years ago. Gregory has the same warranty as Osprey, but is much more capable and comfortable carrying heavy loads (40-50 lbs). I have loaded mine with up to 65 lbs on a training hike - the only thing that was uncomfortable was my endurance! The hip belt and shoulder straps swivel slightly to allow the pack to balance itself on your torso when ascending or descending mountains, without chaffing or unduly pulling on your shoulders and hips. I now have a couple of hundred miles of hiking with this pack and am thrilled with its comfort, size, accessibility, and performance. I have since bought the Baltoro 65L for my girlfriend (who has only used it a couple of times, but loves it) and another as a birthday gift for a hiking buddy (he just got it, but knows how well mine has functioned and held up). At $200, this pack is a steal from STP!

This one is no different. You can load it a bit heavier than average and still maintain good balance and stability. Good for the long-haul. Be sure to put some weight (~25lbs) in the pack when making initial adjustments and testing for size. Not super abrasion resistant, so be careful when raising or lowering it by rope over rough surfaces like granite.

I am about a medium sized male so I went with the medium initially. After trying on and watching some videos of the guy from Gregory talking about how to fit his packs I decided to exchange for a Small which was a very easy process. The small fits me perfect and very happy I exchanged. The pack could hold more than it does but it has plenty of capability for strapping things to the outside which saves a lot on interiors space. It feels relatively light and very comfortable. I did 6 days on trail with it packed heavily. The hip belt caused some bruising but nothing out of the ordinary. Don't be afraid to go down a size if you are on the cusp. The shoulder straps should wrap nicely around your shoulders, no gap between the top of your shoulders and bottom of straps.
