Good pack, way better than the one I've had for 20 years, venting, rainfly, stretchy pockets on side. Pretty darn skook'em

I bought this pack because I wanted the cross flow ventilation and a little more room than my Osprey Stratos 24 has. Like the Stratos, this pack is extremely comfortable! I love the cross flow ventilation. It keeps my back cool and the frame type suspension makes the heavy load seem light. The lower part of the mesh back panel is padded which adds to the comfort. The Stratos does not have this. I prefer the zipper to the drawstring opening, which a lot of Gregory packs have, because it is easier to get items out of your pack. The Z30 has a huge pocket on the outer, top side which does not cut down on the inside space. The top pocket on the Stratos hung down inside the pack and took up space. The outer stuff pocket is quite roomy (the Stratos did not have this) and the rain cover is in another zip pocket located behind the stuff pocket. The hip belt is nicely padded, but it ends up with a narrow belt in the front. It is just 1 inch wide. In another review, I had read about it, so I wasn't surprised. I don't find it uncomfortable, but it just seems flimsy. Overall it is a very nice pack. I just wish the hip belt was wider.

I got the medium and it is a touch small for me at 5 foot 9. Sits a little high on my hips. That being said, great pack, very comfortable for all day wear. Did a few days in Yellowstone and did max 16 mile day hikes and it was clutch. Suspension system on back is a lifesaver.

About Gregory

After designing his first backpack as a Boy Scout at the age of 14, Wayne Gregory dedicated his career to making outstanding gear, a mission that eventually led him to create Gregory Mountain Products in 1977. From the beginning, Gregory backpacks have been engineered using a combination of field research and customer feedback in order to enhance durability, fit and function. The brand has pioneered many industry firsts, such as multiple pack sizes with different frame, harness and waist belt dimensions. They also developed the first waist belt system that offered a variety of hip angles. Not surprisingly, Gregory backpacks have been praised in a wide range of publications, from Backpacker magazine to National Geographic Adventure.
