Reviewed by Lu from Chattanooga on Thursday, October 10, 2013Nice shoes. You notice the quality at first glance.
Reviewed by Fossil Hunter from Florida on Wednesday, August 14, 2013I purchased these shoes to go on a multi state trip to all the western canyons. I needed comfort, support and reasonable looks. I got more than I asked for in these trail shoes. With occasional back problems, I wanted a shoe that would offer good support. These do. I wanted a shoe that I could wear for 12 hours a day. I did with great comfort and I wanted a shoe that when I got out of my hiking clothes into something more casual, these fit the bill. Great buy and great shoe. I now own two Hanwag styles from STP. Beautifully made with care. A nice buy.
Reviewed by Rick from Wa on Tuesday, June 18, 2013HanWag is in the same family who own LOWA. HanWag constructed this shoe with strong leather, buttery calf skin inside, and I mean throughout inside. This stuff is amazing and if you were to see it you'd enter into the world of high quality hand crafted shoes rarely found anymore. When I look for shoes, I am extremely frustrated that I can't find such a product as these. Most are made in China and I will not buy shoes or boots from China. I buy boots from Italy, and shoes from Europe if possible. When I stumbled onto this deal on Sierra, I did not hesitate. They run a tad long so Sierra helped me swap for the correct size right away. They are very supportive for bigger guys who like to walk and hike. The soles are made by Vibram. The tongues are gusseted. The heels do not slip at all, even when tied loose. Very comfortable, yet tough. The style works just about anywhere. Reminds me of the fine shoes I have from Havana Joe in Spain, or Zamberlan shoes from Italy.

“Please read my earlier question carefully. Your response appears to deal with the leather. I am concened about the Vibram sole. Your response directs me to the Hagway site which is what I copied in my earlier question about the sole. You will find it if you click on the biosole icon found at the lower right corner of the Hagway information site on this model shoe.”
The shoes we are selling have the standard Vibram Sole that is not made with B2EARTH rubber. However here is some information about B2EARTH rubber.
The B2EARTH rubber blend does not begin to decompose until it is exposed to an environment that the process composting can begin. Essentially the boots have to be buried in soil where they would be exposed to insects, earthworms and microorganisms. B2EARTH rubber does not biodegrade: with the passing of time and through the seasons; once exposed to atmospheric conditions such as humidity and heat outside and inside the shoe; in general, in any ordinary circumstance. This is link to the B2EARTH FAQ on the B2EARTH web site. http://www.b2earth.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68&Itemid=187&lang=en
“The current version of this model is described on the Hanwag site as using a sole described as: "The new HANWAG CompoSole is the first fully bio-degradable outsole for alpine and trekking boots. It is made from B2EARTH rubber blend and decomposes completely in less than 1500 days." Do you know if that sole is used in the model you are selling? If so, does it self decompose or does something need to be done to it at the land fill? I am concerned because I plan to wear out the boots I now have before using these Hanwags and it may be well into the "1500 days" before I begin to wear them. I have already ordered two pair of these because they were described on your site as exactly what I want, but now I wonder about the sole.”
These shoes have a Vibram® rubber sole. They feature Bio Leather. This link is to their web page about Bio Leather. http://www.hanwag.de/page.php?page_id=46
