I didn't even pull out the strings and stake them to tighten the unit, and it is standing beautifully on its own. I expected this to flop over without additional supports of some kind, but after a month of protecting my squash plants from bugs and casual investigation by critters, it still stands. Rain gets right thru, and you can water thru the unit in place. These are not large enough to cover huge squash plants all season, but will help protect them while they are young.
