For that I would say they're a little disappointing. The hand pockets are unnecessary and the waistband is way over-built for this purpose. A bit strange because the fabric is very light. I think you could make these work nicely as a gym short but for running, I'd look elsewhere.

The shorts are comfortable and cool during a hard work out, cover what their supposed to yet provide full range of motion. I would recommend these shorts to a friend and I'd advise shopping through Sierra Trading Post.

The built in brief is comfortable offering a good combination of support and freedom, the length (7") is long enough for modesty, but not so long as to bind on long strides when the shorts are wet with sweat. The only negative, and it is a minor one, the construction of the waist band is a bit clunky. In summary, these are a good basic short and at the sale price and excellent value.
