Amazing Shoe for Old Feet

I am super active (yoga 6-7 days per week), but very new to running. I am 60 years old, so very cautious about potential injury. As I age I find that I hurt more easily and heal more slowly. I am 5'8" and 150 pounds, typically wear an 8 and wear an 8 1/2 in these Hokas.

I had been running for a few weeks in some Helly Hansen trail shoes and things were going OK. I had a pair of minimalist shoes which I had walked in with no trouble, but when I ran 5k in them, later I noticed pain in my achilles and pain in my feet. Scared the hell out of me. I was afraid I had injured myself. I laid off running for a few days and the pain went away...bullet dodged.

Meantime, I reached out to a bunch of running friends and did my research. Hola One Ones came up a lot among two groups: ultra long distance runners and people recovering from injuries of several sorts. I ordered a bunch from Sierra to try on and settled on the Mafate Speed. These shoes are just amazing. I can run 5k, several days in a row and feel absolutely zero pain. My foot feels totally held, stable, and protected in this shoe. I am sold and have ordered a second pair--Conquest this time.

I have heard some reports that they may not wear exceptionally well, but they feel so much better, I would buy them anyway. I do not have enough miles on them to say. But I value my feet and just really don't care.

They look a little goofy, but whatever. I totally recommend for anyone who is old or nursing injuries.
