Now I believe......

I'm training for a trail half marathon in November and needed to invest in some new kicks. I've been loyal to Brooks for years but my Cascadias don't hold out the sand that we have here in the desert. I had heard about these shoes but was really skeptical, thinking they might be fine for walking but too thick in the sole for running. (especially with my marathon shuffle, I thought I would be constantly tripping)
For my first run, I stayed on the street and completed about 8 miles in them. I kept laughing the first mile because it literally felt like there were little trampolines in the shoe, cushioning and propelling me.
Today I decided to try them on a short but steep trail run, about 5.5 miles. The last time I did this run, I had to stop and dump sand out of my shoes. Not this time. I also noticed that my running stance seemed more upright and my balance coming down hill was better. I love the wide toe box and lacing system. Yes, they do look weird but I think I'm falling in love.
I am typically an 8.5-9.0 in a shoe and a neutral foot so went with the 9.5 and it feels correct. There was also room in the shoe to add my orthotics. I've only got the two runs in them so cannot comment on their longevity but I go through a few pairs of runners per year anyway and at $75 I felt it was worth taking a chance. So far, I'm glad I did.
