I've been looking for a Hhuurrttaa for my dog but the full price is a little prohibitive. Had to jump on the deal through Sierra Trading Post. The size 20 just fits my 65 lb. Verified Buyer Reviewed by toad76 from Denver, Co on Wednesday, February 17, 2016Following the size charts this jacket should have fit my dog (shiba inu/cocker cross). The length was perfect. But the opening between the two front leg holes was too narrow. I would consider my dog a rather narrow chested breed. So if your dog has wide chest at all, either order up on the size chart or go elsewhere. I have several other hurta products (y harness, winter coat, collar, etc) and they all fit her fine. They fit great and have really held up over time.
As for construction and quality of this fleece, it looked and felt great. The material was pretty dense, I expected it to be thinner & softer somehow. But this material really seemed like it would be perfect for cutting the wind on a cold day. If stp had the next size up, I would have tried it. I don't think I was the only person that had to send it back. When I got it, I found an errant hair or two. So someone else had probably already sent it back before me. I used half a lint brush trying to get my dog's hair off it in order to send it back.
Reviewed by EH from London on Thursday, March 19, 2015I bought this for my 7 KG female Jack Russell. I was surprised by how far short the jacket fell from what I needed.
I've used it during a cold and wet Fall, and stopped using it before Winter as the inside would get sopping wet. I don't know if the water goes straight through the fabric, or via the material around the leggings, or what. This is now a back-up back-up jacket if everything else is wet, muddy, or in the wash. I had actually convinced myself that I must have been mistaken and it is not waterproof, until I saw the description again here and felt obliged to write a review to give others a heads up.
Other than not being waterproof the jacket is a good fit, although the leg holes are too tight and getting her paws through has to be done by threading them through the knit part, with the dogs cooperation.
The absolute best dog jackets I have had were from STP, made by Columbia, but they have not been available anywhere for years. I've gotten probably 5 different ones since then and they all have shortcomings. The dog jackets I have from Columbia are literally coming apart at the seams, zips are busted, but I still use them on a daily basis they are so perfectly fitting, waterproof, and comfy for her.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Darlin from Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 12, 2015Heard about the brand on Facebook, so thought I'd try it for my old "guy" as he needs the extra warmth on these cold winter days. This coat is perfect even for inside wear. He's 14 years old and shivers a lot even in a warm house. The fluorescent stripes on the side of the coat help me keep track of him when he goes out to do his business at bedtime. He's getting a bit senile and wanders around sometimes. Sierra had several of this brand's products available and at sale prices. Very pleased, and will definitely continue to be a Sierra customer in the future.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by brrrr Maine winters from Maine on Monday, February 16, 2015good zipper, coverage and not too bad to get on Snowy and Cold in New England this winter for a little puppy. 11 pounds with boundless energy. This jacket has allowed us to plow through deep snow and when we get back inside the snowballs are only on her feet so warm up/ drying time is reduced.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Chaucer's Mama from New England on Thursday, February 12, 2015I've coveted this coat for some time now. Living in New England with a rather low-to-the-ground, long-furred dog, I'd often wished I had a wet suit for my boy. Walking him in rainy/snowy weather is like walking a wet mop. Online searches turned up the Hurtta dog coat line, but the prices were pretty steep, so I was thrilled to see this waterproof fleece jacket on sale here. I ordered it during the last storm in January, with an extra percentage off, and received it in the midst of the next storm the following week. Great timing.
I'm very pleased with the product. The jacket is well-constructed and pretty easy to put on - if you have a patient dog, that is. Because the jacket zips from tail to neck, I find it best to face my dog, place the coat on the floor at his feet, help his front paws through, and then draw the sides of the coat up to zip it closed. My boy got used to the sleeves pretty quickly and has no problems wearing them. He loves running or body surfing through the deep snow we have and this jacket protects him perfectly. His belly and chest, the areas of worst exposure to wet and snow/ice balls, are completely dry. I love having to wipe off only his paws and nose when he comes from romping. The sizing was a bit tricky. He falls between size, so an 18 - which was unavailable - might have given him more room, but he's managing very well with the more fitted 17. Due to the more fitted size, I haven't had to play with the adjustments too much, only the neck closure. Despite the deep snow he plows through, only a very small amount of snow gets into the cowl and the bungee cord closure keeps it from going very far down his neck. Further adjustment of the cord minimized this even more. His movements are unimpeded and he is no way restricted. He can still run like the wind with his coat on.
We've used this coat several times a day since we got it and we're loving it. Although he has a good thick coat of fur, I think my boy appreciates the wind-blocking feature of this jacket and the extra warmth. He has been able to stay out longer on the single digit/zero degree mornings and evenings we've been having and is back to enjoying his long walks. Pretty easy on, extremely easy off. Snow and moisture bead up and drip right off. It takes no time to dry. It wipes off well so far with just a damp cloth. I'll use his Hurtta raincoat (another extra percent off buy, thank you Sierra Trading Post!) during mud season, but for snowy, windy, cold days this jacket is just perfect. So glad I was able to find one at an affordable price. I've become a big fan of Hurtta coats - and Sierra Trading Post sale prices. I certainly recommend these high-quality products.

“Does this jacket zip up the back?”
Yes, it zips up the back.
Yes. If you click on the third photo you can view this feature.
“Can you explain the sizing to me? ”
The sizing is in inches, it is the length of the back.
This is from the Hurtta site....
MEASURING THE DOG
1. The back length should be measured from the withers (not the collar) to the base of the tail, while the dog is standing in normal position.
2. The neckline measurement should be taken at the base of the neck, this being the widest point of the neck. The neckline of an overall can be larger than the circumference of the dog’s neck, as it can be adjusted to fit a smaller neck.
3. The chest measurement should be taken at the widest point of the chest, from behind the front legs. To ensure sufficient freedom of movement, the chest of an overall should be 5–20 cm/2-8” wider than the dog’s chest.
4. The front leg length should be measured from the bottom of the rib cage along the inner side of the leg to the wrist bone. The legs of an overall are of an appropriate length when they reach down to the dog’s forearms.
Note: If the purpose of the overall is to protect the fur of a long-haired dog, the legs of the overall can be longer than listed above. In this case, however, the overall should only be worn when the dog is on a leash or under its owner’s supervision.
I used the Hurtta website.http://www.hurtta.com/en/Products
The sizing refers to the back length of your dog. Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. It tends to run small in the chest so, if your dog has a bigger rib cage I would order a larger size.

These are sized based on the back length in inches. We do have a return policy that you can view here: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/exchange-return/
“We have a Boston terrier so she is really difficult to size; neck is 17 and chest is 23; not sure if this jacket will work and would like a response”
I looked at hurtta.com and looked up some similar coats and what sizes were recommended for my dog. They size by breed, but you can also look at the size charts to see length, chest, and neck measurements. For example, the fleece jumpsuit on the hurtta site suggests a size 12M for a boston terrier. When you look at 12M on the size chart, it says 12" length, 17" neck, and 24" chest. Sizes seem pretty standard for their coats.
“sizing is a bit difficult. We have a 5 month Brittany Spaniel, he will grow but wanted something for him to use now with a bit of wiggle room. We wanted to get in accustomed to wearing something which will help get him ready for packing trips. Thought with the winter months and walking this might be a good introduction.
I need to have help with sizing.
The sizing is done based on back length. If you hover your mouse over or click on the sizes the corresponding numeric size and a breed associated with this size will be displayed.
“This looks great but the sizing is still not clear!”
Hi, It's a little complication, but watch the video in the first link listed and it will become clear. (I bought a 20" one for my Springer Spaniel in December and we've both been really happy with it.)
http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2997 - below are the directions from here; if you go to the site, you have to click on the left panel that says "Sizing."
How to Measure Your Dog: To fit your dog for a Hurtta Waterproof Fleece Jacket, you first need to determine his back length (measurement #1 in the diagram). If you are deciding between two sizes, use the neckline (#2 in the diagram) and chest/girth measurements (#3 in the diagram) to help you choose.
Be sure that your dog is standing squarely, with head up, and is looking straight ahead. Following the contour of the dog's back closely, measure from the top of the dog's withers (the point of his shoulders) to the base of his tail (the point where the tail joins the body). Do not measure from the dog's collar.
The neckline measurement is taken from the widest part of the dog’s neck; that is, from the base of the neck. The neckline of the jacket may be several centimeters larger than the dog's actual neck measurement since the neckline of the jacket can be adjusted smaller.
The chest/girth measurement is taken from the widest part of the dog’s chest, just behind the forelegs. Breeds with long and thick fur need more room for the chest than dogs with short fur.

Where you enter your breed and style of coat and it tells you the size. My 70 lb wire haired pointer fits in a 50. It's a great coat by the way
Our dog is part Great Dane, part Catahoula Leopard. He is 36.5" around his chest, and 29" from base of his neck to just before his tail.We got the 31" length. I think we should have one one size smaller, but it was not offered. The section that goes under his belly just clears his hmmm--place for peeing. Hope this helps.
I bought one: size says 20 in, 50 cm. Don't know what that means but my dog is about 50 lbs.
and is a hound mix. I just measured him and he's 60 cm long from collar to base of tail and
he's 70 cm, (27 inches) around the girth. He's 21 inches tall (not head, just back).
The numbers given on what sizes are available are the measurement of the length from the dog's collar line, along the dog's spine, ending at the point of the dog's back where the tail begins. I have four of these coats. They are exceptionally well made, water proof, and durable. My dogs are very rough in their play style, and they run through thorny shrubbery. These coats hold up to the battering. They are easy to launder. Cold Wash, Hang Dry. And they are easy to see in low light because of the reflective trim. If your dog fits the sizes given, take advantage of this sale.
“my dog with 29 inch chest, and what size should be ordered?
please reply to email email@example.com
my 27-28" girth, 20-21" length dogs use a size 20. one of them gets serious leg sores from the friction of the "sleeves" so i had to cut those off entirely, and make the leg holes rather big to avoid this problem, but the general fit is good, and lines up with this sizing info i found elsewhere:

For a chest girth, from 24 inches to 29 inches, the dog's back length (from collar to base of tail) should be between 18 inches to 22 inches. I see that the available coats on sale here are limited in the size selection. In my opinion, the size 17 (which is the back length measurement) would be too small for your dog. If you go to the website, Hurtta.com, and the website, eurodogdesigns.com you will find better information about how to measure your dog for this coat. Both websites also have a dog breed guide, so you can get the most appropriate size for your dog.
I think the sizes given on SierraTradingPost are back length of coats. I have two dogs and each of them have several Hurtta dog coats. They are the very best dog coats I have purchased (I have Fido Fleece coats and Ruffwear coats and NeoPaws coats....which are all exceptionally well made, and durable). The Hurtta products are my preferred choice because they are what I would call top of the class in quality and durability.
The advantage of this particular coat by Hurtta is that it covers the chest and the belly of the dog, which needs protection against the wet and cold and snow. You can find these coats on Amazon.com also. Look for the least expensive price because there are several sellers offering the Hurtta products.
Good luck. I hope you dog stays warm and protected.
“Sizes as posted don't make any sense. Please clarify.
14'' – 17''-19'' neckline; 25'' chest/girth.
16'' – 17''-19'' neckline; 27'' chest/girth.
17'' – 15''-17'' neckline; 22'' chest/girth.
18'' – 19''-21'' neckline; 28'' chest/girth.
So the 14 is bigger than the 17 ???”
So it would appear. I never did figure it out.
Hi, See these websites for full information about measuring your dog to fit the Hurtta jacket. (I bought one for my Springer Spaniel in December and we've both been really happy with it.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=813LroI7j-Q
The way the sizes are lists here are for example: 14 inches around the neck (collar measurement), on a dog with a back length (from collar to base of tail) of 17 inches to 19 inches, is for a dog with a 25 inch chest/girth measurement.
Hurtta makes coats to fit different breeds of dogs. Their products are very extensive in fitting all shapes of dogs. So, for example, for an English Bulldog, if the dog's collar size is 17 inches and the dog has a short body with a back length of between 15 inches and 17 inches, and has a chest size of 22 inches, that would fit that English Bull Dog.
Go to the websites, Hurtta.com and Eurodogdesigns.com for more information on proper sizing. Hurtta products are more expensive than the other top quality dog products, like Ruffwear, Fido Fleece and NeoPaws, because Hurtta offers better sizing more designs for different weather conditions, and better tailoring and durabiliy.
I have products from all these companies for my two dogs (very active and large) and I much prefer the Hurtta products.
And no....I am not a representative for the company. I just love my dogs and want the best for them.
