Simply the BEST!!Verified Buyer Reviewed by RpD from Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, September 27, 2017A couple years ago, when attending an orienteering event, I noticed that most of the serious, top level runners were wearing Icebug shoes with metal studs for grip on ice and wood. This made sense: Icebug are from Sweden, where Orienteering is very popular and highly competitive. At the time I was just an occasional trailrunner but I wanted to get more involved. I looked into these shoes and... well, the prices were 'prohibitive', way out of my comfort zone.
When I saw that Sierra Trading Post had them for sale I jumped at the chance. I was fortunate to get my size because they sold out FAST! To say I'm glad I got them is an *understatement*. These are by far the best running shoe I've ever owned. Extremely lightweight yet the rubber studs provide lots of cushion, even on the road!
I've tried so many different trail shoe styles and brands and was disappointed by the lack of tread on lighter shoes, or by the increased weight on shoes with more aggressive tread. These shoes are the best of all worlds: light as a track shoe, grippier than a standard trail shoe, and as cushy as a road trainer! I've even worn them on a track and was surprised by the grip. Felt like I had my spikes on!
They are quite narrow - and I have a narrow foot - so if you have a wide foot you might want to go up a size or try another style. The length is right on the money: felt a little short at first but some minor adjustments to the lacing fixed that, and the footbed's heel cup is quite high in the back so I trimmed that down to get a couple more millimeters of room.
I would get a second pair right now if they were still available in my size at Sierra. For now I'll treat these like the high performance shoe they truly are.
