Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Verified Buyer Reviewed by PrairieGirl from Virginia on Thursday, May 26, 2016Wow! This is a serious coat! Excellent quality and attention to detail. Love all the features. Unfortunately, it was too warm for Virginia's winters, so not the coat for me. I deducted one star because the sleeves were too long. I also did not like the faux fur on the hood, but thankfully, it can be zipped off. So impressed with this line of clothing that I'm currently looking at some of their other styles hoping to find one that suits my climate and needs.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Happy Buyer from Washington coast on Saturday, April 23, 2016I first ordered this parka in a medium. I am 5'6" and weigh 140#. After trying it on several times I decided that the L might be a better fit in the shoulders so I exchanged it. It does fit me better and any extra bulk is compensated for by snugging in the waistline a bit. That creates a very flattering silhouette. The length is perfect for keeping warm in the coldest conditions and I have still room for layering. I bought this parka to take on a trip this fall to Bhutan and I think it will be perfect for visiting sights at higher elevations. The hood is adjustable and the "fur" trim can be removed if desired. I like the lining at the arm openings and I expect to be warm and comfortable regardless of the wind and cold. Then the fact that it is waterproof is perfect. Even walking for a few hours in rainy or snowy conditions should be just fine while wearing this jacket. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
Reviewed by Beth Is Outside from Texas on Sunday, February 21, 2016I loved it! If I lived in Alberta, anywhere else in Canada, or even a little northwest of Amarillo, I'd be all over this coat. However, it's just too much for Central Texas, and we don't have immediate plans for travel to an ultra cold climate. And, I'm not sure I would travel with this parka unless I had to--it's some pretty serious outerwear. But I loved it. So comfortable and a great fit (I'm a medium and the medium fit just right with room to move). It was very well constructed. I tried it on only once before I packed it up to ship back--I was afraid I'd keep it. :)
My trusty REI winter jacket of 15 years was already looking rough, and then the zipper failed, so I needed a replacement for this season. Not much in the stores right now--the shift is to spring and summer--but Sierra Trading Post came to the rescue. I ordered a few different coats with the intention of selecting one and returning the others. I appreciate that Sierra had several styles to choose from in my size and that they have an easy returns process.
One thing I would have considered if there was any chance at all that I'd keep this parka is that the hood does not detach, and it's a lot of hood with the faux fur and insulation. If you were in a blizzard, however, you'd want exactly that kind of hood. The Jack Wolfskin brand is new to me, and I ordered two styles, so I didn't know what to expect. Very impressed! Nice features and construction with both coats, and the other style was exactly what I was looking for--that one is the keeper. This parka, though, if I thought I was gonna be in any serious snow...just sayin'!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Mare de las mer from Boston on Tuesday, February 16, 2016Great strong fabric, machine washable
But not as warm or breathable as I'd hoped
Very good for price
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Kit in the City from New York on Friday, January 29, 2016It's been years since I have had a warm, waterproof, nice-looking jacket for walking my dogs and running around the often bitter, wind-whipped Manhattan city streets. I absolutely love this jacket. It sheds water, is completely windproof and I can add layers depending on the conditions to make it even warmer. It's a keeper!!
