Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Soft and warm
Reviewed by Katherine the Avid Gardener from Los Altos, CA on Thursday, December 18, 2014
Very nice, and given that it is all lambswool, not a mix of wool and cashmere, it is softer than I expected.

I got the 04 color, green with black and cream and red plaid. I like the color, but it is not exactly like the photo. I'd say the green is a bit more towards a soft avocado, not as bright. The black is more of a very dark grey, and the red is not as raspberry as the photo, more like a bright tomato. Very attractive combination, and would work as an accent in many rooms.

Also, it is not super thick, but I think a washing would fluff it up. I have another Johnstons of Elgin which has been washed a couple of times, and that tends to fluff the wool up a bit. They are washable on a gentle cycle with low spin, cool or warm water. The main thing is not too much agitation while wet or damp--that is what shrinks wool. So definitely do not use the dryer. As one reviewer for another blanket pointed out, drycleaning is a very new technology. Originally, people washed wool.

I love this throw. The lambswool is so soft and warm and such pretty colors.

Nice blanket but not very substantial in terms of weight or weave. this is a limited edition which I now believe means it's not the same quality as the standard Elgin blankets. It is still a decent value but don't expect it to be double ply.

I like this and it is an excellent value for the price. It will probably last forever. The surface is very interesting because it is perfectly smooth. Buying an item directly from the mill is the best deal.
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Not At ALL as Described

Ordered multiple of these as gifts. They are NOT silky-soft lambswool- they are scratchy wool. They are also NOT Johnstons of Elgin's Limited Edition throws, they are non-branded with a tag that (depending on which plaid your order) read "Limited Edition" no where on the throw does the word "Johnstons of Elgins" appear. Nice enough throw BUT absolutely NOT what is advertised and NOT worth the price unless you get one (which I did receive a single throw that was lambswool) that is as described.

About Johnstons of Elgin

The inherent luxury of pure Scottish cashmere is borne out in every garment that arrives from the legendary mills of Johnstons of Elgin - a centuries-old family firm doing business in the far North of Scotland since 1797. Using the finest cashmere and superfine wools in the world, Johnstons processes its fibers in a rare "vertical mill" system, where all of the dyeing, spinning, weaving and finishing are carefully controlled on site. Johnstons produces a range of cloth, knitwear and home furnishings at this historic plant - products that are probably best known for their irresistible softness to the touch. The secret, Johnstons believes, is in the finishing, a process still enhanced by the super soft, clear water from nearby River Lossie.
