The sand would not build up in the shoe unless the sand was wet and sticking to my feet and the shoe but it was easy to rinse out the sand by sticking my feet in the water because of the holes on the bottom. The holes also reduced the resistance while walking through water. They dried quickly and were comfortable to wear when wet and dry.

They're also one of the more stylish pairs of water shoes I've seen and aren't bulky. The water drains out easily through the holes in the bottom, but they are durable/supportive enough to walk around in the woods with. The straps keep the shoes secure even when swimming or walking in water.
