I haven't had a ton of use for them yet, just for running errands and taking care of farm animals. They seem pretty warm so far. I got a size 8 and they are snug. i normally wear a size 7 womens.

I usually wear a 7.5 and bought a size 7 that fits perfectly. I wear my normal socks with it though, my guess is that your wife wears super thick socks. You don't need to, her feet will stay warm. If she is concerned, you can buy lightweight ski socks that are thin, but keep your foot warm.
