Good boots, but fit true to size

I haven't had a chance to actually wear these's unseasonably warm this spring. BUT what I really wanted to say was that based on the advice of the blurb and some reviewers, I ordered a size down (I'm normally a size 8.5-8.75). Since there were only whole sizes, and in other instances (such as ice skates, and sandals) I do wear an 8 so there is a precedent, I went with the smaller size. As soon as I slipped my foot in (with a thin cotton sock at that) I knew it was way too small.
Sierra was GREAT about swapping them, I have no complaints about that - just that it was still sort of a pain, and the 9 was what I would have normally ordered.... so I'm not sure ordering down is right for everyone. Ideally STP would have included the metric sizing as well; it's true the 9's are a little larger than I'd normally wear (I'm a 39, and I think they are 41?) the size 8 was only a 38, which I would have known to avoid.
That said, they seem great and I look forward to having them next winter!
