  • Nice Boot at a Great Price

    At this juncture, I haven't put these boots to the test yet. But I have to say, for the quality of the boot, you're getting a ton for your money. I'll use these for vertical ice as well as general mountaineering. I've used plastic boots in years past and finally upgraded to a quality leather climbing boot. Fit is a little tricky. Much like a pair of LaSportiva approach shoes I own, the toe box is narrow. I have very average size feet but having climbed all these years, I understand why the boots are designed this way. That said, I'm typically a size 9 and after trying them on, sized up to a 9.5. Even the 9.5 though is a touch snug. I experimented with a few different socks though and found a great fit provided I'm wearing a thinner hiking sock. There seems to be ample insulation in here so I don't have to wear a really thick sock anyway. There's a double tongue and it's attached by Velcro except in the toe box where it's sewn in, so it's not removable. At first this caused some problems with rubbing but once I flattened it out, no issues. I'm confident these boots will prove to work out really well. And for half the price of most boots in this category, I'm pleased with my purchase.

    Probably one of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn hunting. A whole lot of support.

    These boots are built better than I expected solid comfortable and a true fit with my regular size I will definitely buy these again.
  • Not for wide feet
    Verified Buyer Reviewed by Abhishek from Boston on Saturday, April 1, 2017
    I usually wear US 12 size shoes. I went one size up (size 13) with these boots. That was an overkill. Unlike other hiking boots I tested (Scarpa Mont blanc pro, LA sportiva Nepal EVO), Kayland boots offer more length but there is a catch. The width of the boots are really narrow. I had to return this since I have a wide feet.

    Pros:
    -> Decent build quality.
    -> Good Insulation, especially the tongue part.
    -> Good pricing.

    Cons:
    -> Very narrow at the front.
    -> The lace may run short.

    well built boot. nice stiff sole for climbing. Grivel and Black Diamond crampons fit as-is. I couldn't get my Petzl's to fit. Run small I would say. I wear Vasques shoes and boots in size 12.5 with some extra room for thick socks. I got the Kayland's in size 13 and can only wear a thin sock. They seem warmer than my Nepal EVO's. Lacing system is basic but with a few twists you can separate the toe box from the ankle support. Only negative thing is that they have a second tongue in them like the Nepals but it is not removable. It is fastened in place with an elastic band down in the toe box. I think they would fit better if I could pull it out farther. I haven't cut it off yet but probably will my next time out. For just hiking, of course they are pretty stiff. They have a little rocker and aren't the worst alpine boots I have walked in. Average maybe. Decent on rocks and stuff. Pretty slippery on ice but that is why you wear crampons. Only used them a dozen times so can't say how they wear but seem heavy duty enough for many seasons.

  • “I ordered in a pair of Kayland Mountaineering boots in my normal size and they were way to small.... do you recommend ordering a size up in this boot?”
    Asked by J from MA on 11/16/2017 5:07:31 AM
    • These are regular sizing for Kayland. If you have found that you need to order up, you may want to do so. I cannot guarantee that will work however, as according to our fit team this item is running true to size.

  • “Are these fully rigid soles or do they flex for comfortable approaches and lighter hikes?”
    Asked by Doug from Montana on 9/30/2017 12:39:04 PM
    • Anything classified as a Mountaineering boot will have a rigid sole 99% of the time.
