ice climbing boot

well built boot. nice stiff sole for climbing. Grivel and Black Diamond crampons fit as-is. I couldn't get my Petzl's to fit. Run small I would say. I wear Vasques shoes and boots in size 12.5 with some extra room for thick socks. I got the Kayland's in size 13 and can only wear a thin sock. They seem warmer than my Nepal EVO's. Lacing system is basic but with a few twists you can separate the toe box from the ankle support. Only negative thing is that they have a second tongue in them like the Nepals but it is not removable. It is fastened in place with an elastic band down in the toe box. I think they would fit better if I could pull it out farther. I haven't cut it off yet but probably will my next time out. For just hiking, of course they are pretty stiff. They have a little rocker and aren't the worst alpine boots I have walked in. Average maybe. Decent on rocks and stuff. Pretty slippery on ice but that is why you wear crampons. Only used them a dozen times so can't say how they wear but seem heavy duty enough for many seasons.
