I bought these because I do a lot of walking and needed a water proof shoe. I also have a bunion and needed a wide toe box. Right out of the box I wore these on a 4 mile hike, love them!!! I like the fun red color. On the back of the heal they say "Japan Open 2014." So they must be over runs.

Question & Answer

    • I do use an orthotic with this shoe. It's a dress shoe type of orthotic, ending right under the ball of my foot. However, I also have arthritis in my toes as well as several hammer toes, and there is enough room in the toe box for my toes to rest and to flex comfortably. Keep in mind that a portion of the toe box is flexible (mesh-like material?). Zoom in on that area if you can and you'll see. I bought my normal 7.5 (38) size and they fit well with my orthotic and a cotton workout sock. Furthermore, the entire insole can be removed if you need to accommodate a full orthotic. I use my orthotic on top of the insole, but it would be possible to cut out the portion of the insole that my orthotic rests on. I like this shoe very much!

    • Hi, the shoe fit perfectly without one. The problem I have with this shoe is that the laces don't stay tight. If I put in any kind of orthotic I am sure it would be too tight.

    • This shoe is fairly hard and inflexible. I have not tried to put insoles in them.

    • I pulled out the footbed that was in the shoe originally and replaced it with another shoe insert purchased from Sierra Trading Post. I love the shoes with my added insert and find them to be extremely comfortable.

    • There is a small amount of trim on these that looks like leather but I believe it's synthetic. They are super comfortable, breathable, and light weight...not to mention really cute. I love them!

    • There is some white trim and the red right above the toe guard that may be leather, or they may be synthetic. I can't tell. But given that the shoes are really waterproof, I'd say these pieces are synthetic. The rest of the shoe is definitely not leather.

    • These shoes are so comfortable and so well made. I've just checked and I believe they are all man made materials. Exceptional shoes!

    • I can find no leather. Rubber, yes; synthetics, yes... But no leather.

    • There is a little leather in tge toe area and some by the heel.

    • According to the product specs tab:
      Upper: Mesh with synthetic overlays
      Lining: Textile
      Midsole: PU (polyurethane)
      Outsole: Rubber

    • The little sticker inside the shoe doesn't have any of the "pelt" icons (only diamonds and what looks like a woven square), so it looks like these are synthetic.

    • These are no leather :) I have worn them many times when I walked with my dog in rainy day. These are pretty good waterproof.

About Keen

Keen shoes have been helping feet find adventure since 2003, and it all began with the signature KEEN.PROTECT toe bumper. It might seem strange to build a footwear company around a feature, but that iconic toe bumper is more than just a style add-on. It’s what allows Keen sandals to hit the trails and provide the best toe protection possible. In fact, Keen was one of the first footwear companies to make closed-toed hiking sandals. Over the years, the product selection has continued to grow and now includes Keen hiking boots, trail shoes, cycling shoes, socks, clothing and bags. The brand is also actively involved in land and water conservation projects in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
