I bought these shoes in a size 13, for my 4-year old son. I bought these shoes in a size 13, for my 4-year old son. This is his normal size, but he could not get his foot into the opening without a real effort and a lot of help, and he said it didn't feel good on, so we sent it back for the size 1. Unfortunately, the size 1 (and, I assume all sizes above 1) are lace-ups, not the great velcro closure as in the size 13 and the product picture! I initially ordered these shoes because of that closure system-- at 4, my son loves to put on his shoes without help, but cannot do laces. So... the shoe is too big and he cannot lace them himself, but we will save them for the spring and work on the fine motor skills for lacing! I don't want to have to pay to return them again and they are a good looking, sturdy shoe that's a notch up toughness-wise from a sneaker.

    • These are not waterproof, the upper is made from a breathable mesh.

    • I am actually answering my own question. These shoes ARE waterproof, though they are not listed as such. I just bought these from Sierra Trading and received the Waterproof "WP" version of the shoe.

About Keen

Keen shoes have been helping feet find adventure since 2003, and it all began with the signature KEEN.PROTECT toe bumper. It might seem strange to build a footwear company around a feature, but that iconic toe bumper is more than just a style add-on. It’s what allows Keen sandals to hit the trails and provide the best toe protection possible. In fact, Keen was one of the first footwear companies to make closed-toed hiking sandals. Over the years, the product selection has continued to grow and now includes Keen hiking boots, trail shoes, cycling shoes, socks, clothing and bags. The brand is also actively involved in land and water conservation projects in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
