Good bag. It's bulky and heavy compared to a summer bag of course, but it is synthetic. If you want a light and compressible winter bag, you need down. This is my husband's bag. He is 6 ft tall and of avg to slim weight. He works hard, so it isn't hard for him to sleep. Though camping isn't his choice of outdoor activities, he is a leader for a troop of Boy Scouts; therefore, he had no choice, but to find a serviceable bag for their activities. Though not an authority on sleeping bags, he was impressed by the warmth and roominess of this one.

Bought this for my 14-year-old son. Seems high quality for the cost. Did put it into a compression bag, and could be used backpacking if you had to, but still heavy. He wasn't able to get the hood sinched down right, but it looked okay to me. For the cost, it is hard to beat.

But I would say the North Cascades in winter (or any season) is not the place for down. This is a great bag for the Northwest or other wet locations in the winter. Throw it into a compression sack and it should fit in your backpacking backpack. It really is only 1 or 2 lbs heavier than the average 20 degree synthetic I use for summer backpacking.
