It is no where near 40 inches in diameter, as several other reviewers have noted. It is also a little more puffy that I had hoped it would be, but over time, it will lie down. I do like the fabric a lot. It is a heavy cotton/twill/polyester and my guess is it will be pretty durable. My little guy is not a chewer, so I think it will be a good patio bed for him for quite a while.

The 40" is probably the measurement before it was stuffed, so you get more like 35" across. Measure first, but highly recommend because my dog loves it! The cover is a nice heavy but still soft canvas fabric.

But if you are paying more to get a bigger bed, then you want it to be the size that you paid for. This bed isn't 40 inches big. It is about 33-35 inches in diameter. I had to pay return shipping to send it back.

My 50 lb mutt barely fits on it and will hang off the sides unless she curls up. It actually measures 36” diameter, the 40” measurement is of the unfilled bed’s two fabric circles sewn together.
If you’re looking for a good big bed for a smaller (<35 lb) dog, this seems like it would be great, but I gotta return this one and find something that was not measured and sold in a deceiving fashion.
Also, the grey bed color is more of a smoked blue grey than a traditional black/white grey, so don’t expect it to match any colors in your home easily. -

They are very well made, but too small for GSDs. Before I bought them I measured two inside dog beds that are about 38 in and they are both larger than the two 40 in. beds that we just got from STP. Very disappointed. Beautiful beds but not big enough for large dogs. Will have to find round beds that are smaller than 50 in., but a true 40 in. These would probably be great for dogs in the 35 lb range.
