1.0 out of 5 stars. Broke twice! Don't get these.Reviewed by skibum from Colorado on Wednesday, August 9, 2017I wrote a review previously but could not figure out how to edit it. After I wrote that review, one of these poles snapped in half. They fixed it (I had to pay the shipping, what a rip off). Then they were used ONCE this season and one snapped. I don't know if it was the same one that broke or the other one. Again I had to pay to ship it back. At this point it probably cost me as much in shipping as it did to buy them. I was not doing anything abusive with them. The first time I was hiking on talus and the second time my cousin was using them. So yeah, they are light, but they are also unreasonably fragile. So if you need to depend on your poles for any reason, I would pick something else. This is the only time I have ever had a pole break in half (twice) and I have had a lot of poles.

Hiked in the Tetons with them and only problem was slipping of the pole sections on the first day. Be sure to loosen the clip and then tighten the adjustment screw adequately. They are strong and very light, and they have a comfortable grip. For the Sierra price, a great deal.

The only drawback is the locking system. You will need to tighten the screw on the back of each lock to get these tight enough to support your weight on the trail. Once you tighten those the locking tabs become harder to use, but they do stay solid at that point. -

That much is very true. But the " power lock" mechanisms are junk. They collapsed on me when I stumbled ( putting more pressure on them than usual...but isn't that why you carry hiking poles?). Tightened them with a screwdriver...and the very next hike, they collapsed again! Calling customer service to see what my return options are...

Thus far I have done day hikes, but planning a three day hike and I was told to get good trekking poles. I read all the reviews and decided to go with the most expensive pair with the greatest discount. I received these last week 10,20/16 took them out of the box and with little pressure one of the poles collapsed. I tried different configurations, same thing. They're on their way back to STP now. I will say though if you do order them and neither collapses then you have good poles.

Although these poles are less expensive than the Verio 4s, they are noticeably lighter. As an older hiker, saving arm strength is important to me, and I'm delighted with these poles. As another reviewer noted, they arrived missing one basket. You'll also need to buy rubber tips, as they are not included. Komperdell makes the poles for REI, so you could go try them there, and come back to Sierra and save over $100.

One pole broke 5 feet into the trail. The Powerlock mechanism didn't lock at all. So I hiked with one pole. The other pole gave out the next day as I was climbing up to Cloud's Rest - I could have died! Again, the Powerlock loosened and the pole collapsed. Calling STP tomorrow about how to get a refund.

Foam handles are gentle on my bare hands and readjusting height is easy. Poles arrived w/ one protective end cap missing (box had damage/hole in corner larger than end cap so guessing probably happened during shipping) so I called customer service. 4 days later a replacement protective end cap arrived at my house me free of charge. Very satisfied with product and customer service.

These poles are well designed, nice grip, good lock and they strap to my backpack easily. I almost max out the pole extension, so tall people watch out. The pole extension height marks are measured in centimeter, not inches.
