I use trekking poles all the time to help mitigate stress on arthritic knee and ankle joints. These tips make it possible to go from outdoor hiking and walking into stores, cafes, etc., with manufactured floor surfaces without damaging the floor and without sacrificing grip--poles without tips are like ice skates on linoleum, for example.
