Due to back and nerve problems, physical therapist recommended a type of walking stick to help with balance and proprioception (sense of self in 3-D space). I was reluctant to get the traditional cane. When I saw that this pole is height adjustable and has anti-shock, I wanted to try it for my purposes. I not only don't mind using it, I love it. The cork handle is immediately comfortable. Adjustment of telescoping pole is easy. It is very lightweight. It is recognized as a walking aid by TSA and most conscious humans. It gives added stability on steps and added agility on turns. For indoor use, it does require the neoprene tip (sold separately) to keep the metal tip from marring floors or slipping. I think that if I were still doing vigorous or mixed terrain hiking, I would probably like a longer pole and upright handle. This one is good for smooth trail and improved surfaces. It is a good partner to keep me walking and exercising.
