I backpack and try to keep my pack weight down as little as possible. While aluminum is a bit heavier than titanium these aluminum pans distribute the heat of my alcohol stove very well. One more big plus to this set is that it is two pots with pan lids that can be separated and packed as two separate sets. My alcohol stove and windscreen fit nicely inside each pot and lid so I now have a cook set for me and a separate one for someone else.
I was not disappointed.

I could not find where these state specifically whether they are or are not okay for open fire cooking, but I would think that as long as it was done with the proper care it should work.
