The snowflake, wrist, and bottom designs are knitted in with different colored threads. They are not pasted on. The thread is very soft but has a cool feel since it is viscose. So, I wear a silk or cotton shirt underneath. It washed well. I was concerned that the hem folded up when I pulled it out of the washer. But I just smoothed it down, and it stayed.

Probably looks cute as a headband when doubled over.
